May 9, the Hesburgh Grove was dedicated at Holy Cross College in honor of Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C., president emeritus of the University of Notre Dame, for his longtime support of Holy Cross College. The grove, which has been in the planning stages for a couple of years, is close to the entrance of the campus. It is a site with benches and a wind chime for relaxation or study. The site was chosen because the Golden Dome of Notre Dame, Sacred Heart Basilica and the Hesburgh Library can be seen from the spot. The design of the grove was the work of Kimberly Leja a senior at the University of Purdue, who is a godchild of Br. Lawrence Unfried, Associate Professor of Biology at HCC. Also taking part in the dedication was Br. Richard Gilman, CSC, President of Holy Cross College and Doreen and Jerry Hammes, the donors who made the Hesburgh Grove possible.
